20th of December - Nailvarnishes for Christmas (or apocalypse...?)

Only a few days till Christmas and in my mind I already dress myself for Christmas Eve. We already showed you some nice dresses and hairstyles but today I want to show you some quite christmassy nailvarnishes!!

For me, the best Christmas nailvarnish is a self-made one. One of us as already tried to create little pictures on her nails and it looked absolutely amazing. Unfortunatly we weren't clever enough to take a photo... :(
But I found a photo of some nails which look quite similar to ours:

You might need lots of patience for it but I think it is totally worth it as the nails look extraordinary afterwards and you'll get lots of compliments for it!!

P.S: We do not have a single idea how to apply these breathtaking and drop-dead gorgeous nail arts!! :(
We'll try to find it out!! ;)

A few days ago I bought a special nailvarnish which makes your nails look matte finished.
It's by Essie (about 7 pound) and is called "matte about you". I completely fell in love with it because you can create some quite nice nail designs with it.

These are some suggestions which are all quite easy to make:

19th of December - German Christmas Markets

You haven't bought all the presents for Christmas yet? You would love to spend some time with friends in a nice and chrsitmassy atmosphere? You like to stroll over markets and to look for cute and gorgeous stuff? You fancy a hot mulled wine and a delicious fried sausage?
Why don't you combine those things and visit a Christmas Market anywhere in Germany?

If you haven't heard of it, those markets are an important tradition for the Germans and can be found in every town, no matter how small it is. In cute, small booths handmade decorations, toys and nice stuff are sold, as well as precious jewellery, small presents and, most importantly, food. You can find roasted almonds, cotton candy, sugar apples, potato fritter, gingerbread hearts and - of course - a good German "Bratwurst"! While enjoying the beautifully decorated booths and the whole joyful atmosphere you can shop the last presents, just look at all the pretty stuff or simply have good time with friends at the hot mulled wine booth.

The tradition origins in the early medieval age and has developed into a very typical and important tradition in the German-speaking area. Many other contries strated to copy concept but the most beautiful markets can still be found in Germany:

- Aachen
- Berlin
- Bonn
- Cologne
- Dortmund
- Dresden
- Düsseldorf
- Erfurt
- Essen
- Frankfurt am Main
- Hamburg
- Leipzig
- Lübeck
- Munich
- Nuremberg
- Rostock
- Stuttgart

These are only few of the best
Christmas Markets in Germany, why don't you visit one, if you are around?
We promise, it is always worth a try! Especially the "Weihnachtsmarkt am Dom" in Cologne, next to the impressive cathedral is highly recommendable!
(You can see a picture of it right down here!)

17th of December - Christmas Trees

One the most beautiful Christmas traditions most of us have is putting up a Christmas Tree. I love how it festively decorated gleams and sparkles in our living room. A Christmas Tree simply belongs to Christmas and although it looks different at every house, I believe every tree is beautiful in its own way.

The tradition of putting up such a Christmas Tree finds its origin in the late 15th century in Germany. Then the  tree was traditionally decoratd with edibles such as apples, nuts and dates. But now the food has widely been replaced by ornaments, Christmas tree baubles and balls, tinsel, garland, little bells and other pretty glittering decoration. On top of a Christmas tree usually an angel or a star is put. Since many generations, my family has always tied a big red bow on the highest branch of the tree.
Some families still enlighten their Christmas tree with real candles but due to the high flammability of the dry fir tree most of the people nowadays use electric candles or Christmas lights.

We bought our tree last Saturday and I am already looking forward to setting it up and decortating it a few days before Christmas...

Enjoy some nice pictures from the web:

16th of December - Christmas worldwide 2: France, New York, Jamaica

Today we would like to continue our little series called "Christmas worldwide". This time you will come to know lots of interesting facts about how the people in France, New York and Jamaica are going to celebrate Christmas.

1. France
Lots of people thinks that the French don't celebrate Christmas in another way than the Germans do. But actually they have their own really special way to celebrate the most beautiful day of the year.
A long time ago Saint Nicholas brought indeed presents on the 6th of Decmber like in Germany but nowadays this is no longer one of the traditions n France.
There the "père noel" brings the presents to the children unrecognized and mystical through the smokestack on the night of 24th December.
This collegue of Father Christmas leaves the presents in the provided shoes in front of the stove.
The French also have a Christmas tree which they decorate with sweets, toys and fruits.
The festive Christmas begins in France not until the 25th of December when all the presents will be unpacked  before the whole family will sit together to eat the traditional dishes.
The "Foie Gras" and the "Buche de Noel" (butter-cream cake which looks like a sawn off trunk) are only two  of them.
It is also really important in France to decorate their houses and the streets with fairy lights and other decoration.
Especially the Eiffel Tower and the "Champ Elysee" looks absolutely spectecular during the Christmas time.

2. New York
New York catches the Christmas spirit more so than any other city. Long before the first snow falls from the sky New York City is already enchanted into a magical winter wonderland.
Ice skaters are piouretting and the legendary dancers of the Radio City Rockettes enter the stage and the cute "Sugar Plum Fairies" hover over the stage. More over the whole city is illuminated by thousands of lights.
In America Sainta Clause brings the presents forthe children on the nicght of the 24th of December. He travels with a sleigh which is pulled by reindeers. As a reward for him the children in America place milk and cookies at the frontdoor.
Additionally the tom turkey is something which cannot be missed at Christmas. Fried turkey, Christmas pudding and pasty are also famous and traditional dishes.

3. Jamaica
Like everywherer in Jamiaca the Christmas time is a really special time as well. That's why they have their own Christmas traditions. This included the "Grand Market" which is not longer celebrated in Jamaika. It was a really colourful market which began on Chritmas Eve and lasted until the 26th of December.

During the time of slavery Christmas was celebrated quite intensiv because it was the longest time of the year in which they did not have to work. From on the 24th of December the slaves were wearing their best clothes and their best juwellery.
Nowadays Christmas is celebrated like in any other country of America.
