11th of December - Movie Recommendation: Love Actually

Love actually is all around...

With these wonderful yet simple words one of the best Christmas movies of all time (at least in our opinion) is opened. It is called Love Actually and deals with 10 different love stories that come together on Christmas Eve. Each of these stories is special and emotional on their own way and throughtout the whole movie you find more and more tiny connections between them. You are on a rollercoaster ride of emotions towards Christmas, the Feast of Love, and you will experience that "Love actually IS all around"...

The plot is quite difficult to explain as the movie consists of many storylines connected among each other.
While the new elected British Premierminister David (Hugh Grant) struggles with his feelings towards his cute catering manager Natalie (Martine McCutcheon), John (Martin Freeman) and Judie (Joanna Page) slowly get to know each other during their job as light doubles for a special kind of film ;-) Karen's (Emma Thompson) and Harry's (Alan Rickman) long term marriage gets tested as the attractive Mia (Heike Makatsch) appears in Harry's office. There shy Sarah (Laura Linney) is more or less secretly in love with extremely handsome Karl (Rodrigo Santoro), whilst Colin (Kris Marshall) decides to go to America as the British Girls are just too serious and stiff for him. Hardly hit by the death of his mother, little Sam (Thomas Sangster) has to get along with his hopeless love for his cool school mate Joanna (Olivia Olson) and gets comforted by his caring step-dad Daniel (Liam Neeson) whilst Jamie (Colin Firth), once again disappointed by a woman, slowly falls in love with his Portuguese household help Aurelia (LĂșcia Moniz). During thw whole pre-Christmas period, old rocker Billy Mack tries to have a comeback with his new Christmas single. But our favourite story is the one of freshly married Juliet (Keira Knightley) and her husband Peter's (Chiwetel Ejiofor) best friend Mark (Andrew Lincoln), who doesn't seem to like her at all.

This romantic Christmas movie is highly recommendable as perfectly pictures the heartwarming and wonderful but also the bad and painful aspects of love. As you may have already noticed while reading the plot summary, many of Britain's best actresses and actors have a little role in this movie, there is probably at least one you love! (For example Keira Knightley, whose attendance in the film was the reason for us to first watch Love Actually!)
The whole cast is simply great, every character is special and likeable in their own way and there is at least one person you can sympathise with as you are in the same situation. Of course Keira is as gorgeous as always and it's very nice to see her in one of her earlier movies!
The film is mainly set in London, which is very awesome as you get many glimpses of how gorgeous the city looks at Christmas time. I've you have been in London some time, you will probably recognise many locations, shops and places.
Clint Mansell's soundtrack for this movie is a mixture of wonderfully composed romantic instrumental music and lots of well-known pop songs such as "All you need is love", "Sweetest Goodbye" or "God only knows".
When watching this masterpiece by Richard Curtis, we always get a very pleasant anticipation of Christmas!

All in all, Love Actually is one of the best romantic comedies ever, that is set at Christmas; it has a heartwarming story, wonderful characters played by a talented (mainly British) cast together with beautiful settings and well fitting music.

The opening line hasn't promised too much, you will truly experience, that love actually is to be found at every corner!
So this gorgeous movie definately belongs into everyone's selection of must-see films at Christmas time and if you haven't seen it yet, why don't you take some time and let yourself be bewitched by this lovely piece of cinematography?!
