7th of December - Movie Recommendation: Finding Neverland

Today, on a cold and snowy Friday we would like to recommend one of the most gorgeous movies ever! It has nothing to do with Christmas, but it is a wonderful film you can watch troughout the year, with everyone you love, and spend approx. 2 hours enjoying beautiful pictures, charming characters and a heartwarming yet  very sad end!

The movie is called Finding Neverland and is about the Scottish author and playwrighter James M. Barrie (Johnny Depp), who wrote the famous play "The Boy who was Peter Pan". He was inspired by his friend Sylvia Llewelyn Davies (Kate Winslet) and her four charming sons (amongst others, Freddie Highmoore). Barrie met the family in a Park in London one day, getting over the fact that his last play totally failed. From that day on, he spends his days playing with the young boys and thanks to his huge imagination they always have a wonderful time pretending to be Indians, Pirates or Cowboys, and to fight scoundrel and crocodiles and to watch the bear Porthos (who ia actually Barrie's dog) dance...
Inspired by the daily adventures in the backyard or the park, Barrie writes his lifework "Peter Pan". But then Sylvia's health condition degrades and Barrie's relationship to her and her sons is put to the touch...

Regisseur Marc Foster presents a wonderful insight of the history of origins of the play "Peter Pan" and beautifully pictures Barrie's imagination. With this movie, he creates a wonderful world, very similar to Neverland itself, and lets the viewer be a part of it. The emotional end will leave everyone with tears in their eyes but with thankfulness that they were able to abandon the grey daily routine and float right into this colourful dream of a movie.
Johnny Depp gives an amazing performance portraiting the inspiring character of J. M. Barrie and takes on a trip through a children's imagination and even perfectly faked an awesome Scottish accent, which sounds quite unsual but very charming!
Together with him, Kate Winslet once again shines with playing the caring and loving mother of her boys and the lovely and thankful friend of Barrie. She is pictures a strong woman, who masters the daily troubles and shows no sign of tiredness although she must have been completely underfoot.
The other actors, such as Julie Christie (as Sylvia's mother Mrs Du Maurier), Dustin Hoffman (as the  theatre's producer Charles Frohman) and the four Davies brother's actors deliver a great performance.

The soundtrack, composed by Jan K. P. Kaczmarek, is simply wonderful, it takes you right into Neverland and lets you dream of being a child once again. Perfect to listen to on rainy afternoons and always conjuring a dreamy smile on your face, this soundtrack definately deserved the Academy Award for the Best Original Score 2005.

"Finding Neverland" is all around a wonderful movie, one of the best I've seen! Simply gorgeous, nothing left to say!
