Today we would like to continue our little series called "Christmas worldwide". This time you will come to know lots of interesting facts about how the people in France, New York and Jamaica are going to celebrate Christmas.
1. France
Lots of people thinks that the French don't celebrate Christmas in another way than the Germans do. But actually they have their own really special way to celebrate the most beautiful day of the year.
A long time ago Saint Nicholas brought indeed presents on the 6th of Decmber like in Germany but nowadays this is no longer one of the traditions n France.
There the "père noel" brings the presents to the children unrecognized and mystical through the smokestack on the night of 24th December.
This collegue of Father Christmas leaves the presents in the provided shoes in front of the stove.
The French also have a Christmas tree which they decorate with sweets, toys and fruits.
The festive Christmas begins in France not until the 25th of December when all the presents will be unpacked before the whole family will sit together to eat the traditional dishes.
The "Foie Gras" and the "Buche de Noel" (butter-cream cake which looks like a sawn off trunk) are only two of them.
It is also really important in France to decorate their houses and the streets with fairy lights and other decoration.
Especially the Eiffel Tower and the "Champ Elysee" looks absolutely spectecular during the Christmas time.
2. New York
New York catches the Christmas spirit more so than any other city. Long before the first snow falls from the sky New York City is already enchanted into a magical winter wonderland.
Ice skaters are piouretting and the legendary dancers of the Radio City Rockettes enter the stage and the cute "Sugar Plum Fairies" hover over the stage. More over the whole city is illuminated by thousands of lights.
In America Sainta Clause brings the presents forthe children on the nicght of the 24th of December. He travels with a sleigh which is pulled by reindeers. As a reward for him the children in America place milk and cookies at the frontdoor.
Additionally the tom turkey is something which cannot be missed at Christmas. Fried turkey, Christmas pudding and pasty are also famous and traditional dishes.
3. Jamaica
Like everywherer in Jamiaca the Christmas time is a really special time as well. That's why they have their own Christmas traditions. This included the "Grand Market" which is not longer celebrated in Jamaika. It was a really colourful market which began on Chritmas Eve and lasted until the 26th of December.
During the time of slavery Christmas was celebrated quite intensiv because it was the longest time of the year in which they did not have to work.From on the 24th of December the slaves were wearing their best clothes and their best juwellery.
Nowadays Christmas is celebrated like in any other country of America.
